Travel has always been part of my life—from visiting my grandmother’s travel agency as a little girl to traveling internationally while my husband played professional basketball overseas. Now that we are more settled, we plan annual couples’ and family trips. I also travel with my sons’ baseball and basketball teams and frequently attend wellness conferences and events held during sporting events, like the Super Bowl. 

For the past 13 years, I have dedicated my life’s work to addressing a silent epidemic—especially within the African American sports community. Throughout this journey, I have continued to grow my clinical expertise in academic sports concussion management, conduct research, disseminate findings, mentor students and colleagues, and build programs that expand awareness and access.

This work also led me to found Head To Speech, Incorporated in 2021, a nonprofit organization focused on educational, scientific, and charitable initiatives dedicated to athlete brain health and the effects of sports concussions on cognitive-communication skills. 

Along the way, I have had the privilege of educating and training speech-language pathologists, interprofessional teams, and community collectives of athletes—and those who support them.

Since founding Head To Speech, I have gained extensive skills and experience as an event planner, wellness retreat facilitator, and travel advisor. Our sold-out networking events and awards luncheons consistently bring together up to 50 supporters and have generated 5-figure fundraising totals from a single event. Our organization has been featured in NFL's My Cause, My Cleats campaign, and many more helping us grow our highly vetted community, programs, and Giving Circle!

Now, I’m expanding my global social impact—elevating the work I lead through Head To Speech and BIA BRAND, my social impact branding, speaking, media, and consultancy platform. At the same time, I am growing a society of speech-language pathologists, their sports families, and colleagues who aspire to build six-and seven-figure opportunities through a shared passion for sports, travel, wellness, and legacy.

In 2024, I realized that SLPs who were connected to sports, athletics, wellness, fitness, and the Paralympics didn’t have a community to network with like-minded individuals. As a result, important conversations were not happening beyond communication disorders, and we had no way to stay connected to advance societal issues that mattered to our sports communities.

Now we do—because I founded The Sports SLP Society™.

I also realized that there was a gap in graduate training and professional standards that are unique to Sports SLPs. This realization led me to develop the first professional certification program through the Academy of Certified Sports Speech-Language Pathologists™. I’ve received countless emails from SLPs who have taken my courses and want to dive deeper into clinical immersion, contemporary issues and policies, and private practice and business management coaching to grow their expertise in working within athletics, sports, wellness, and fitness. These trainings are designed to help them grow their expertise. 

On March 10, 2026, I officially coined the term Certified Sports SLP®! I patiently waited for my trademark, but I kept myself busy. I connected with more than 400 SLPs at the ASHA Convention who were current or former athletes, members of sports families, professionals who work with athletes, or individuals interested in learning more about becoming a Certified Sports SLP®.

On the same day, marked another meaningful step in my journey. I became an Independent Travel Agent with InteleTravel and a PlanNet Marketing Representative to launch and grow the Sports SLP Society™. I’m building my team of travel advisors with enthusiastic social entrepreneurs who are ready to facilitate global sports travel experiences, wellness retreats, and meet-ups. Members of the Sports SLP Society™ will gain access to training, resources, business coaching, and lifestyle apparel while learning how to build an additional income stream around travel, sports events, and wellness retreats.
